Zoë is a Toronto-based printmaker. She works in Silkscreen at Open Studio and at the InPrint Collective in Toronto.

Zoë’s inspiration comes from the landscape scenes around her and her work depicts city scenes and places she has lived in or visited and then taken photos to initiate compositions.

"I’m always inspired by cityscapes, landscapes and street scenes"

Zoë believes that every layer, every texture, and every color is an opportunity to create something unique and meaningful.

For her, every piece is a balance of experimentation and creativity, bringing her unique perspective to life.

"Art is not just about perfection; it's about experimentation and freedom"

Zoë is an Art Teacher and teaches Silkscreen for the Toronto District School Board in their Learn4Life program at Central Technical School. She has a BFA from Queen’s University specializing in printmaking.

"I always feel like I have a frame when I look at the world"

Zoë has been drawn to the print medium since her classes as a youth at the Gallery School at the AGO. She is an award-winning exhibiting artist with work in several local collections such as Ernst & Young, Toronto Dominion Bank, and the City of Toronto.

"At Queen's I was inspired by my professor, the great silkscreen printmaker J.C. (Carl) Heywood to focus on Silkscreen."

Silkscreen Printmaking: A Technique of Layers and Textures

Zoë works in the technique of painterly screen printing, which combines layering, textures, and rich colors. Her process begins with photographs taken during her travels, which are then transformed into unique compositions. Using a photo emulsion technique, she transfers her drawings onto a screen, creating layers that add depth and expressiveness to her works.

Her style stands out from traditional screen printing with its vibrancy and experimental approach. Instead of flat prints, she creates intricate, multilayered pieces that resemble paintings but are crafted through screen printing. Each work is a process where both precision and creative freedom are essential.
